The Air Jordan 9 Shoes was released in 1993 shortly following the announcement of Jordan's retirement.On October 6th 1993, Jordan gave the basketball world a shock when he announced his retirement from the NBA. This was just one day before training camp and it was not what anyone had expected at this time. The greatest basketball player of all time retiring at the age of 30. A decision probably affected by the fact that his father was murdered in North Carolina in the summer of 1993 just before he won his third championship.The shoe being released was plain and sturdy and was the first model that Michael did not wear in an NBA seasonal game (due to the retirement). The sole had lots of details and a large 23 was stitched at the back of the shoe.The Air Jordan 9 has been the shoe chosen to adorn Jordan's feet for his statue outside of the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.In popular culture, in the children's movie The Little Rascals one of the bullies, Butch is wearing a pair of Air Jordan IX.American Rap Icon Tupac Shakur was also known to wear Air Jordan Shoes in a popular "Thug Life" photo set in 1993.

As previous reviews have stated these shoes had a terribly strong chemical smell when they first arrived It smelled very similar to gasoline Not something you want your shoes to smell like However after a couple of days of airing out the smell was completely gone The shoe design is very nice I have received numerous compliments on them in my office I would buy them again The one thing that did concern me was that the leather across the heel was so hard that it cut into me (literally) the first time I wore them I had to manually manipulate and stretch the opening before I could wear them After that they have been great

Love these shoes! A very comfortable thong; doesn't hurt between the toes I purchased the black and the beadwork dresses them up beautifully for work or casual
